The PEI board is a non-crystalline plastic. It is an amorphous high-performance polymer which is extruded from an engineering plastic made of amorphous PEI (polyetherimide) through a high temperature extruder.
The long-term creep resistance of polyetherimides at high temperatures and stresses allows them to replace metals and other materials in many structural equipment. It exhibits good electrical properties under variable temperature, humidity and frequency conditions. The low loss factor at the GHz frequency gives the polyetherimide high microwave wearability. Its ionic pollutants are low in level at 250F100% R. H. The electrical conductivity after extraction with water at 207 kPa for 120 hours, above 20 megaohms, can be used as an insulating material for electronic sensor elements.
PEI has a machining cost factor of 0.8 when compared to steel 12L14.
